How to Organize Messy Cords and Cables at Your Desk
Got a mess of tangled cords, phone chargers, and random electronic cables everywhere? Can’t find the cord or charger you actually need when you need it? Here’s how to organize messy cords and cables with just a few simple tips.
So I had this issue with having phone charging cables falling off my nightstand when I wasn’t actually charging a device, and when they fell over the side they’d end up somewhere under my bed because the outlet is kind of far away. I saw these neat little cable clips a while back and thought that while they would be useful, I figured I could just DIY something instead.
So I ended up trying several different (terrible) DIY solutions, including tape, command strips, twisty ties taped to the side of my night stand, and more. But they would either break or not really keep the charger in place when not in use.
So finally I decided to order some of these CableDrops by Blue Lounge and they work perfectly.
As you can see above, you can just stick these little cable clips to a table or surface with the attached adhesive and then they hold your cords in place (these were sized for small Apple chargers), but you can still put the cable out if you need to take your charger with you (otherwise I may have just duct taped my chargers to the table permanently to keep them in line :P).
I only needed a couple, but I got a bunch in pretty colors. Problem solved.
Then I had an issue with having a bunch of very similar-looking black chargers for other electronics and not being able to tell them apart in case I needed to unplug something, reset my router, etc.
So I figured out for good which cables went to which electronics and then used small colorful Post it notes to label what each charger went to and taped the labels to the ends that were plugged into this multi-outlet power strip. Ta da!
I also had a vacuum charger that I kept losing so I put a label on that one too so I don’t lose track of it when I need to charge my cordless vacuum.
Yay! All my cables and chargers and cords are finally organized in a way that’s practical, simple, and doesn’t interfere with actually using them. No more messy cords!
