Would you like to save money on your water bill? Here are some easy ways to lower your water bills, conserve resources, and make a positive impact on the environment.
Environmentally Friendly Ways To Save Money on Your Water Bill
Watering Your Lawn:
If you use too much water watering your lawn, you can replace some or all of the grass or vegetation with a rock garden, a cactus garden, or ornamental sculpture. These things will take much less water to maintain.
Washing Your Car:
Make sure you park in the garage if you have one, or under covered parking. If you do not have access to a garage or covered parking, you can buy a car cover to protect your car from getting dirty. These things will allow you to wash your car less frequently. Avoid parking under trees, because trees will often shower sap all over your car, making more soap and water necessary when you wash your car.
Water Saving Appliances and Shower Heads:
You can purchase water saving appliances and shower heads that will allow you to save money on your water bill. In many cases, the upfront expense can be more than offset by amount of money you save on your water bills. You can often find rebates, discounts and incentives for buying more efficient appliances.
Lower Your Water Bill by Washing Less Laundry:
Give some thought to what you wear when you get dressed in the morning. If you would be equally comfortable wearing either sandals or socks and shoes, choose to wear sandals and skip wearing the socks. This eliminates the possibility of washing more socks than you need to. If you would be equally comfortable wearing a short sleeved shirt or a long sleeved shirt, choose to wear the short sleeved shirt. You’ll be washing less fabric, and will therefore be able to fit more clothes in each load of laundry you wash.
Hand wash clothes whenever possible. Washing clothes by machine uses more water than washing clothes by hand does.
Wash dishes by hand instead of using your dishwasher. This will save significant amounts of water.
Showering After Working Out:
If you have a gym membership, take your shower at the gym after you work out instead of going home to shower. Your gym membership includes the cost of your showers, so take advantage of the fees you are already paying.
If you follow some or all these suggestions, you will hopefully see significant savings on your water bills.
